Go Nuts Donuts Promo

It sure seems like GoNuts Donuts is looking to keep themselves in the conversation in the doughnut space, and they are offering 6 Pastillas de Leche doughnuts for only 85 pesos. Consideting how I like this particular flavor, it's an easy buy.

The promo is only available today, August 1 or until tomorrow if stocks remain.

Dunkin Donuts' price increase

I'm not sure when this change happened, since I haven't really been buying a lot of doughnuts from Dunkin Donuts lately, but it turns out that one of my all-time favorite flavors, the Choco Butternut, is now part of what the store labels are "premium" donuts and as such, it costs 35 pesos a piece. 35 pesos! It's nearly twice the price of other "regular" donuts where it used to be part of.

It's within the same price range as that of other high end doughnuts such as Krispy Kreme [roughly around 40-45 pesos per piece] and J.Co Donuts [42 pesos per piece]. These higher end brands tend to go cheaper as well if you buy by the dozen. It's just sad that what I consider to be part of their original flavors have to be tagged to be part of their pricier group, when they could have just continued to come up with newer flavors to fill that void instead of alienating loyal customers with such a big price increase. Then again, I guess, I'm just not updated.

J.Co Donuts - Hi Lychee!

On a Sunday morning, I was with my girlfriend spending time at J.Co Donuts. I love the variety in their doughnuts, and how they seem to capture the flavor accurately with their products.

So, today, there was this new flavor [or at least it seemed new to me], and I just had to give it a go. It was called "Hi Lychee" and as the name implies, is Lychee-flavored.

Nothing much to write here, except that if you like lychee, this doughnut captures that flavor quite well. Reminds me of those canned lychees with syrup that my dad buys from the grocery.

Krispy Kreme has a GOAL for Father's day 2011

Doughnuts and coffee shop Krispy Kreme is surely not letting off on the promotions to bring more people into their stores. While they continue with their tie-in with the Green Lantern movie, they also take the opportunity to remind everyone that this upcoming Sunday, June 19, 2011 is Father's Day.

Though football in general is only starting to take root in Philippine soil, the company opted with this theme for their Father's Day offering. I'm not sure, about it though, because the Philippines is still a basketball-heavy nation, as evidenced in the just recently concluded NBA Finals. Still, the Philippine Azkals might have something to do with it.

What doughnut is this, you might ask? It is a chocolate doughnut with confectioner's sugar outlined to form the football design on top. I was discussing this with my friend and photo provider Peej Rainer on how the sugar was placed on top with the said design, and we did not arrive to a firm conclusion on how it was done.

Yes, Krispy Kreme DOES serve their doughnuts with forks. Don't laugh.

You might be wondering, this is a pretty plain boring doughnut, but here's something I did not expect initially: it has Bavarian filling inside. As a fan of glorious bavarian from other doughnut companies, I'm pleasantly surprised to say the least.

Krispy Kreme gears up for the Green Lantern

With DC Comics set to take center stage later this month with their own superhero movie offering, Krispy Kreme doughnuts surely took the time to work a partnership with Hal Jordan and his associates, and they come up with a limited edition flavor just for the occasion.

So, what makes a Green Lantern doughnut, you might ask? Their promotional poster was more than helpful in that regard.

How did it go? Well, to say the least, it DID have Hershey's chocolate, just not the whole doughnut as it sure seemed like when I was reading it out. There is a piece of Hershey's chocolate under the green jelly. In simpler terms, it is not as I had hoped it was. Then again, I might have been expecting too much for a promotional-only, movie tie-in doughnut which only aims to get sales mainly from the movie it is helping promote. Whew, that was long.

Special props to my good friend Peej Rainer for the pictures. You sir, are awesome.

Mister Donuts' Chocolate Muffins

I dropped by a nearby Mister Donuts store a few days ago with my girlfriend to have a few doughnuts and coffee for breakfast before going home. Aside from the typical holed treats that we got, I chanced upon some awesome chocolate muffins.

They are soooooooooo good. I munched on a couple of 'em and they're filled with chocolate goodness from top to bottom. Definitely not for the calorie-counters out there. But definitely worth a try, for sure!
