Chippy Twister - Lemon and Cheese - great combo or weird concoction?

So we were having our grocery run last weekend and as per ritual we normally pass by the snack section and grab our stock of junk food [we have to fuel our once-in-a-while cravings] and happened upon this bright yellow packaged, attention seeking pack of chips that I just can't ignore.

Having caught my eye, I just wanted to give it a go. However, there was a bit of a catch. The flavor is eherm... "unique". I like lemon flavored food, drinks, etc, and I definitely like cheese. But together? I'm not so sure, but all things considered, I would not leave the question of "what does THAT taste like?" unanswered.

So I opened the pack and lo and behold, 1/3 of a bag contains the said twisters! And the rest? It is the component which people say maintain the freshness and crunch of these type of food. So important, that Lay's made it a trademark on their products: Air! Nonetheless, I opened up and placed them in my hand... to photograph [well, of course, before I tried it... pictures or it did not happen!].

So I took my first few bites and I can satisfactorily report that yes a.) it has the lemon-y taste as advertised and b.) it has cheesy powder in every bite [as seen on the pictures]. However, there is a problem, and it is this. The two flavors don't compliment each other well. So, I tried eating it some more, but could not just find the enjoyment. 

I had two other people try it. I wanted to make sure that a.) I'm not missing anything with regards to my analysis of flavors, and b.) to share the misery of having to finish of the bag of twisters. So, I'm not alone in the assessment that yes, these flavors don't compliment each other well.

On the plus side, the packaging says it is only a limited time item, so it wouldn't really be out for long.

Empanada Avenue -

Last Saturday, while on the way home, I was feeling a bit hungry. Since it was a week before payday, my budget was trying to crawl . I was thinking of ignoring my grumbling tummy till I get home where I can mooch off the stocks at home, but this is something that needs to be addressed ASAP. My choices were a bunch of fastfood restos. I'm not eating there, because my budget would not let me. 

This store caught my eye, and the name seems familiar. I walked in and check what they have in store and if I can somehow fit it in my miniscule budget.

Oh-kay, it seems cheap and I can afford it. Whew!

 Just so that you can see the size as compared to my palm. It's quite small, but it was served hot, which is a big plus, and it doesn't have a lot of breading, which is a bigger plus. The flavor was good, and I appreciated it. Too bad, it's far and I'm not familiar if there are other branches.

Are you... Wafu?

So, just middling around Eastwood netted me this new snack from Oishi. It sure looks like a cheese-flavored Stick-o packaged in individual sticks, per se. That's fine, although I'm not sure who would buy it one stick at a time, but hey, that's their choice. However, I'd like to ask... why name it Wafu?



As far as I know, the term "Wafu" pertains to someone who is handsome, or in general terms, is awesome. From the original tagalog word "gwapo", I encountered the term during my online gaming days, but hey, back on topic. Why name it wafu?

Ice Scramble: The Return of A Childhood Treat

One of my favorite childhood treats was ice scramble. I'd have it after school almost everyday while waiting for the school bus to arrive. It was nothing fancy, just like any other food you buy from the side streets. It was almost always the same, colored pink, made of crushed ice and probably sugar, has powdered milk and chocolate syrup on top. I couldn't, for the life of me figure out if there was a secret ingredient or two in this concoction, but it was a real treat, and a great way to cool down on a hot day.

For the past few months, I've seen one stall after another go up in malls hawking this classic treat, but now with each store's own arsenal of add-ons. Yesterday, after mass, one such stall was present outside Rosario Church. I didn't let it pass and I bought me a cup. It cost me 15Php [$0.33 USD] for the said cup. Of course, as I don't really bring around a camera, I just fished for my mobile phone and took a few snaps here and there.

Twistix: Potatoes with a Twist!

I went to Robinson's Galleria today and caught a bit of the Women's World 10-ball championship. The lower floors were already filled with spectators so I just watched from the third floor balcony looking down. I chanced upon a food stall with a long line of customers. Seeing that people were lining up, I took my time and saw that it was a fairly new product [at least I haven't seen it before].



Wanting to try things out, I lined up and got the chance to see how the food was prepared. These are fresh potatoes [with the skin on, mind you] being sliced into their twisted ways and deep fried until it's nice and crispy. Flavor is added afterwards [choices include the typical potato add-ons such as cheese, barbeque, sour cream and a few others I did not bother checking out].



Awesome. It was really crunchy and had me craving for more. Too bad the queue was getting longer, and I had to go elsewhere at the moment, but this is a snack worth going to whenever I'm in the area.
