13. Kuzukiri. Interestingly I was having a conversation the other day about my favourite desserts I've had along this food journey. Admittedly, I've had quite a fair share of sugary desserts. To my mind, the three outstanding desserts I've had in Japan have been - Kyoaji's, kitcho arashiyama and quintessence (miles ahead of Hidemi's so called world's best cake). These three served radically different styles of desserts, and I guess this goes to show just how, sometimes, the best dishes don't necessarily have to be the most complicated. You don't need twenty different components to a dish to make it shine. All you need, in my opinion, is a version of it that touches people's heart strings. The richly balanced and flavoured the syrup goes so well with the translucent noodle strips being sat in the ice bath; almost like a match made in heaven! by abelchlam
